Some students prefer online tuition rather than face-to-face, for a variety of different reasons. We are very happy to accommodate this either as a permanent option or on a temporary basis. We are also happy to do a mixture of both online and face-to-face tuition, whatever suits a student best. We have found the best medium of communicating online is via Microsoft Teams, the software for which can be downloaded free of charge regardless of whether you are using Windows or a Mac. We then send a link to the student so that they can access Bitpaper, an interactive whiteboard. There is no additional cost to yourselves for this resource. It does, however, work best using Chrome as a browser. Optionally, students may find it easier to write on the whiteboard if they have a touch screen computer/laptop or it is possible to buy a graphics tablet, such as the Huion Inspiroy HS610, which is very easy to set up and use. These tablets can be purchased via websites such as Amazon for around £60. However, this additional equipment is optional and we do successfully deliver lessons without students having either a touch screen computer/laptop or a graphics tablet.
Regardless of how the lesson is taught – online or face to face, there is no doubt that one to one tuition is particularly effective in improving not only a student’s academic grades, but also their practical understanding of a wide range of subjects. Unlike in school:
- Private tuition enables lessons to be easily customised to suit the individual pupil, both in terms of content, focus, pace and teaching style. It enables tutors to adapt lessons to fit to their student’s preferred learning styles, enabling all pupils, regardless of innate ability to be stretched and challenged appropriately.
- One-to-one tuition means that the tutor and student work much more closely and develop stronger relationships compared to a classroom setting. The impact this has on the pupil is profound, as tutors will be able to spot potential problems and correct misconceptions much more quickly than in school. For shy students, being in a learning environment with less people can also help them to express themselves, as they are under less pressure from their peers.
Cost per hour for a regular lesson:
- £65 for Year 7 – Year 11 (up to GCSE)
- £75 for Economics, Mathematics, Further Mathematics and Physics A Levels.
Payment is normally made by bank transfer at the start of each month for that month. Occasional lessons may be paid for by cash at the end of the session. See terms and conditions.
