Michelle Moore MA (Cantab), PGCE
Michelle Moore has been involved with teaching for more than 25 years, having declared she wanted to be a teacher when she was only 7 years old. On graduating from Trinity College, Cambridge University with a 2:1 in Economics, Michelle took part in a government sponsored project to investigate and compare the education system in Japan to the UK, after which she went on to work in the City managing £60 million of investment funds in the Far Eastern Markets. It was whilst on maternity leave that Michelle decided to change career direction; simultaneously, she started up her own tutoring business and embarked on her PGCE qualification.
A fully qualified and accomplished Mathematics and Economics teacher, Michelle’s experience is extensive and varied. Lesson observations from both OFSTED and ISI have consistently judged Michelle as ‘outstanding’ in the classroom, reflecting the balance and thought Michelle puts into each and every lesson, encouraging all pupils regardless of ability to work to their very best in an interactive and engaging manner. Michelle has worked at a number of local grammar schools, secondary moderns and also within the independent sector at both selective and non-selective schools. Key appointments include: Second in the Mathematics Department at St Helen’s School in Northwood 2000 – 2008, Head of Mathematics at Sir William Borlase’s Grammar School in Marlow 2008 – 2013 and Assistant Head for Teaching & Learning at St Mary’s School in Gerrards Cross 2013-2017. Despite the move up the career ladder, being in the classroom has always been Michelle’s true passion, hence the decision to return full time to teaching as a private tutor.
Always keen to promote a love of learning, Michelle has dedicated many an hour devising puzzles and interactive resources for students to put the ‘wow’ back into education and to develop those crucial, life-long skills of logical thinking, so that pupils are able to apply core concepts to more complex problems with greater confidence; skills that are transferable to other subject areas. Michelle is driven to ensure all pupils are stretched and challenged, regardless of initial ability, and that no student has any limits placed on their learning.
Michelle has been DBS checked (enhanced disclosure) and regularly attends seminars and conferences on different aspects of Teaching & Learning to ensure she is up to date with the latest thinking in education. She is married to another Mathematics teacher, has three grown up children and lives in Chalfont St Peter, Buckinghamshire. References can be supplied upon request.
