Stephen Moore MA (Cantab), MEng, PGCE

Having graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge with a Masters in Engineering, Stephen Moore started his working life with Ford Motor Company designing cars and qualifying as a Chartered Engineer in the process.  Moving onto Mars Confectionery, Stephen became Chief Engineer of Chocolate where he worked for nearly 20 years.  During this time, Stephen became increasingly involved with teaching young people and developing their skills, firstly as a black belt judo coach where he worked as a part of a close-knit team enabling a crop of teenagers to become national medallists and GB squad members.  However, it was when he started leading school parties round the Slough confectionery site that Stephen’s burgeoning interest in teaching blossomed and he realised that in fact, he was a teacher in all but name.

Subsequently, Stephen took his professional teaching qualifications and started his new career as a Teacher of Mathematics at St Alban’s High School for Girls before moving to Immanuel College as Second in the Mathematics Department. His popularity as a teacher and immense managerial experience led to Stephen moving on quickly to become Head of Mathematics at St Margaret’s School in Bushey and within a year, Director of Studies.  With the introduction of the new GCSE and A Level curriculum, Stephen has ensured that he has kept up to date developing his GCSE and A level knowledge of not only Mathematics but also Physics, successfully tutoring pupils in Oxbridge entrance examinations in both subjects.

A passionate educator, Stephen’s greatest enjoyment is putting the ‘wow’ back into pupils’ learning. Keen to develop students’ conceptual understanding, Stephen is a practical mathematician and physicist, using resources to enhance explanations and focusing on investigative, open ended techniques, where applicable. Stephen is experienced in teaching students from Year 7 all the way to Year 13.  His expertise includes teaching STEP, MAT, PAT, TMUA, ENGAA, NSAA and Thinking Skills Assessment (TSA), to potential Oxbridge candidates.

Stephen is DBS checked.  He is married to Michelle, a fellow Mathematics teacher and has 3 grown up children.  References can be supplied on request.
